The devotion to the Most Sacred Heart of Jesus, is one of the most widely practiced and well-known Roman Catholic, Anglican and Lutheran devotions, aknowledging Jesus Christ's physical heart as the representation of his divine love for humanity.
St Francis de Sales, St Margaret Mary Alacoque, St John Eudes, St Faustina, St John Bosco, St Claude Colombiere, as well as many other Saints promoted the devotion, some of which came from apparitions and private revelations series of apparitions.
Blessed Mary of the Divine Heart, of the Good Shepherd, received private revelations that requested in the name of Jesus Christ that Pope Leo XIII consecrate the entire world to the Sacred Heart of Jesus. This request was later confirmed in the Apparition of Our Lady of Fatima, in Portugal.
